Manually Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on your Motorola Droid Razr/Razr Maxx

I was greeted with an early Christmas present/April Fool’s joke this afternoon. A System Update notification appeared on my Droid Razr Maxx. It clocked in at a whopping 300+MB so I knew this had to be the one- Jelly Bean. I didn’t get to find out though, because Motorola pulled the update from their servers. Thankfully, someone saved the official OTA update package and I have hosted it here for you guys! Follow these steps to get Jelly Bean on your OG Razr/Razr Maxx.

  1. Download this file to your phone’s SD Card. (Click here for alternate download server).
  2. Turn off the phone.
  3. Press and hold the power andboth volume up/volume down buttons until a boot screen appears.
  4. At the boot screen, use the volume down button to highlight Recovery. Then hit the volume up key to select it.
  5. When the Android guy shows up, press both the volume up and volume down keys.
  6. Select Install update from external storage and browse for the zip file you downloaded.

The update took me about 15-20 minutes to fully install. Once finished, you should see this in your settings:

Enjoy!

Quick question for you. I have seen this file and these instructions on numerous pages. But none explain how to get back to ICS if something goes wrong or if you just want to go back. Do you have any idea how that might work?

As far as I know you can’t go back to ICS. You would have to root and take a backup before you upgraded. Then flash back to ICS through recovery mode.

It doesn’t work. The system cannot accept the upgrade

What’s the error message you receive?

  • rashid

    didn’t work
    it says
    finding update package
    opening update package
    verifying update package
    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed
    installation aborted

Yea I think this guide has become obsolete since Verizon has officially released the upgrade over the air.
